"What a breakfast!" I spent a night in this hotel in October 2002. The hotel is located on the hills, with a wonderful view over Coimbra. Rooms are not particularly nice (quite old), but clean and comfortable. The biggest surprise was breakfast, served on the top floor again with a wonderful view over Coimbra. You can find almost everything you wish, chocolate and biscuits included. Definetely an excellent breakfast for a 3-star hotel.

"Great hotel" We stayed in this hotel late December 2003 and were thoroughly impressed with the helpfulness of the staff, the high standard of the rooms and the excellent meals. Overall this is an excellent hotel for the money. Our stay in Coimra was just one night so we could not use Dom Luis as a base to visit the city and surrounds but if you are stating longer then is would serve that purpose well.
