"Beautiful historical hotel"
This is a beautiful hotel in the university city of Portugal. The location is slightly outside the centre of the city and a fair walk if you do not have your own transport. We stayed in a room in the historical part of the building which was spacious and comfortable, although the air conditioning system was rather noisy if that type of thing disturbs you. The more modern parts of the hotel appeared to have less character so you may want to ask for a room in the older part if you like character in your hotel room.
There are two restaurants in the hotel, a Michelin starred restaurant which was very good and a more informal restaurant which was good if slightly pretentious. Given the standard of food we ate in Portugal (not that good) this was a welcome relief!

"Exclusive Lagrimas"
We spent 3 days in this fantastic hotel and everything was great, a big room in the old palace, the staff very friendly and nice, breakfast very good, and the dinner in the restaurante "A Capela" was fabulous. We definitely recommend Quinta das Lagrimas.

"Great place to stay in Coimbra"
We thought this hotel was wonderful. Having visited Portugal many times over the years Coimbra had never been on our itinery before. Quinta das Lagrimas is great as it is far enough out of the city to be very peaceful but near enough to walk into the centre (c. 20 mins walk).
We found the hotel to be very clean, staff exceptionally helpful, the gardens were beautiful (especially the tree with amazing roots!), swimming pool was great, again surrounded by nice garden. Breakfast was very good - we did not eat in either of the restaurants in the evening. The indoor pool/spa was good too - very peaceful as hardly anyone seemed to use it (although decorated in very dark colours it was actually very calming.
I would only have one negative thing to say in that the bar was not too good - very small and unatmospheric - not ideal if you wanted to have a pre/post dinner drink in the cool of the evening.
Apart from that everything else was great and would highly recommend it.
